Wisconsin College Planning Checklist for December

College Financial Assistance MilwaukeeMilwaukee College Prep Consultants Provide Valuable Planning Advice

As December rolls around, it can be a challenge to continue staying on top of Wisconsin college prep and planning; however, there are still many items which need addressing during the month of December to properly prepare you for college. Our Milwaukee college prep consultants have gathered a list of the most important things you should be doing to keep up with college planning in December. Whether you are looking for help with the college planning process, Wisconsin college grant assistance or college financial planning, Integrated College Planning is here to help. Follow the checklist below and stay ahead of the Wisconsin college planning curve.

  • Prepare to Fill out Your FAFSA: FAFSA (free application for federal student aid) is an extremely important factor in acquiring federal college financial aid in Wisconsin. To ensure a smooth FAFSA application process, planning and preparation are key.
    • Apply for a PIN: You and your guardian must apply for a PIN to gain access to your FAFSA application and account. Your PIN is used each year to electronically apply for Wisconsin federal student aid. You may also use your PIN to access your Wisconsin Federal Student Aid records online.
    • Urge Parents (or Guardians) to File Taxes Early: A FAFSA application requires your parent(s) tax information to correctly calculate your Wisconsin college financial aid package. Getting your parent(s) to file taxes as soon as possible after January 1st will ease the Wisconsin college financial aid application process and ensure a speedy student aid report from The Department of Education.
  • Watch for Early Admission Notices: If you applied for early admission to your college(s) of choice an admission notice should be arriving shortly. Keep an eye out for official notices from college(s) and begin narrowing down your choices. This will help you get a better idea of how to plan for the next few months.
  • Register for AP Classes: Consider enrolling in advanced placement classes during your last semester of high school. These classes not only help develop advanced skills, they also help prepare you for college level workloads. If you are interested in a specific field of study like science, history, math or English, AP classes are the best way to learn more about possible college programs or career opportunities.
  • Finish Any Remaining College Applications: If you have any college admission applications left, finalize your essays and submit them. Even if the deadlines still seem far off, they’ll be here sooner than you think.
